I've only ever purchased Ballston socks in the past from "closeout" stores, like Gabe's, & they were originally made for companies like REI & LLBean before being covered over with the Ballston brand for "closeout" sales. But I remembered the Ballston name because they were the only socks that never wore holes through them, & I've had them about 10yrs now. Seeing as how all other socks I've bought wear holes quickly, I decided to find Ballston online. So far I'm happy with my purchase, 5pks of the quarter socks. They are a bit thicker than I anticipated, for a lightweight sock. Not as thin as the old previous ones I've had, but I don't think those old ones were "hiking" socks. They are comfy though, & you can't beat the merino wool in a sock. My only complaint is the size. I wear a size 7.5-9.5 shoe, depending on the manufacturer. Most of my previous Ballston socks were marked Large, some Medium, & they fit great. Reading other reviews there was multiple mention of the socks running on the small side. So I ordered Large in these quarter socks. Upon receiving, I found them to be a tad bit too large, by about an inch or so. Enough to make them annoying. However, according to proper washing/care, you are not to put them in a hot dryer. I suspected this was due to shrinkage. After speaking with customer service, they thought that running them in a hot dryer after washing would shrink them just enough to fit & take that inch or so slack out. I'm happy to say they were right. Just finished washing my first batch, ran through the hot dryer with the rest of the clothes, & they came out a perfect fit for me now. I only gave 4 stars because I can't attest to the longevity of this current batch yet. If they make it 10yrs like my previous examples, I'll be more than thrilled. If they do last several years, I would say you can't beat Ballston socks for the price, compared to other competitors who charge 3x-5x more.

I adore these socks! Comfort, long lasting and at a great price. I have worn this brand for years. Originally, I was looking for an alternative to cotton and the foot problems that they cause. I have recommended these to friends who suffer "trench foot" and other discomfort as I found relief.

Not my first pair of merino wool socks but these almost immediately have become my favorite. Very comfortable fabric with a high proportion of merino. Great thickness for balancing softness while still being comfortable in the summer. Shipping and ordering was flawless. And at a price that easily beats the newer merino sock brands of equal or lesser quality. Just surprised I hadn't heard of this brand before.

I started using these socks a few years ago for hiking. They are hands down the best socks I've worn and have no plans to wear any others!! Bravo Ballston! Keep up the good work!

I love these socks. As I've suggested before, it would be nice to have a letter for the size, but I was told it would be an added expense. How about this: change the color of the word "BALLSTON" for each different size. Keep the red color for the most popular size. Blue, Green, Black, Orange for others...it would help when sorting my family's laundry!!!

I love the quarter socks but need size medium. When will they be available to order more?

These socks are great, except now size xl is no longer available. I will have search for an other brand of socks that makes xl sizes.

Are these out of production or something? I’m worried that I can’t stock up on more large 1/4 socks. You make a great product & I hope the shortage is temporary.

I had a single pair of this Ballston sock from over 5years ago-it is still my favorite sock and I still wear them. These are warm, fit well and wash beautifully. great for boots or tennis shoes.

This was my second order from Ballston. These last socks were a cut down version of the first that I ordered. Mainly I will use these for golf. They are comfortable and a great value for the price. I wish Ballston had a greater variety of colors like solid navy, black, and brown. Thank you for a great product manufactured here in the US.

I love these socks. First bought some last year and now they're all that I wear (as far as socks go). They're comfortable and seem to be long lasting.

Very comfortable mid weight sock. I have very wide feet and these don't strangle them like some brands do.

These socks are the best socks I've ever owned. Perfectly thick and supportive. They keep my feet warm when it's cold, and keeps them cool when it's hot. Lasts a very long time even under heavy use.

These will be my fourth set of Ballston socks. They are better than any other wool sock I've bought from other suppliers. I plan on remaining a Ballston fan for life!

We absolutely love these socks. Originally bought them on Amazon and were very disappointed when we couldn't get them anymore. Then, I decided to go directly to the source and voila! Ordered two packages (8 pairs, total). Very comfortable, warm in winter, comfortable in summer. Soft as a baby's bottom (or a lamb's???). A bit expensive but worth it. I would like to see a reinforced bottom, the original four pairs we bought wore through - we like wearing them without shoes.

I keep coming returning to Ballston socks. No substitute for wuss disease durability. Thanks

Wear them everyday

These became my goto socks for marathon prep 700 miles in 16 weeks. They are cool in hot weather and magically keep my feet at the right temperatures. I now own 12 pairs and am using them for my runs. Highly recommended.

Getting ready for a (4th) marathon requires the best gear. Especially if you are a minimalist shoe runner. These socks are comfortable for running, hiking and even at home... Highly recommended!
