I have purchased these before and I wear them both winter and summer. They keep my feet warm in the winter and they seem to wick the sweat away from my feet in the summer. If I use cotton socks they're sweaty when I take my motorcycle boots or my work shoes off. I bought these socks again because they worked well and they held up very well. My only complaint is that they are too tight above the ankle so I always roll them down a little bit.

these socks are great. i received some years ago as a gift and they held up. during that time i was hiking daily for work and play. many, many hours spent on my feet, in boots, covering a variaty of terrain. great!
a suggestion. although i appreciate the lack of dye it can be hard to tell the difference between the light, mid and heavy weight socks. they run together in a sock drawer. maybe use the red in the toes to add a band around the top of the sock. one for light, two for mid, three for heavy. just a thought.

My second order after 4 years. I wore out the first order. I haven't found anything else that matches the Merino wool content. My feet stay toasty all Winter long.
I wish there was a smaller Lycra content option though. My legs show depression in the sock area when I retire for the evening. This tells me the socks are too tight for me. I'm of average weight. Any options?

Thanks, Ballston! Camping in Grand Canyon National Park two winters ago I ran out of socks. The only warm socks at the gift store were a pair of Ballstons. Warm and a good fit, I ordered four pairs online when I got home to Alaska, and have been using them ever since.
They are excellent socks, very durable and decent looking, and the original pair I bought have only just worn out. I'll keep buying them until someone decides to improve the bottom line by cutting corners.

The only 100% wool socks that run true to size and stay that way for their entire useful life! Note that the socks hove multiple sizes, not just two like most brands. The last batch of these socks that I bought just started to wear out. I looked around and could find no better options. I purchased 30 or 36 pairs and look forward to another several years at least of comfort - warmth in the winter and wicking away of moisture in the summer!

I don't really hate the socks because I never received them. Our wonderful postal service can't find them. I submitted two service requests, which the USPS resolved by telling me they couldn't locate the package. They recommended I file a claim. When I did, I was told I couldn't do that because the package was not insured. They also suggested I submit a missing mail search. Nothing has come of that. I would recommend Ballston use a more reliable delivery service.

It’s always a trial looking for good boot socks. Either they’re too hot or scratchy or so thick you can’t get your boots on. These are perfect and with the high percentage or merino wool are great at regulating temperature. So far they appear to be durable but only time will tell.

I purchased these socks to replace some I bought at Ocean State Job Lot years ago. They were 2nds and tape had been applied to cover the manufacturer's name knit in the toe. All I knew was that they were made by or for 'MIKE' whose name was knitted inside the cuff. (How cool is that?!) Anyway, those socks have been a favorite and worn many, many times Eventually, the tape wore out and I could see the name 'Ballston' underneath. Could they possibly still be in business? After all, I'd been to the factory outlet in Cohoes back in the early 1990s, so maybe... Sure enough, I found them online (now in one of the Carolinas) and so ordered MIKE's replacements. They are exactly what I wanted - and, oh, so warm!! I love that MIKE was knit into my old pair and I hope Ballston will renew that practice. These are great socks. Good fit, very comfortable, supportive, and toasty. Have so far only worn them shoveling the walk, but I can see how they would be excellent for winter trekking, especially in slightly colder conditions. They are very warm in relation to their thickness. Am looking forward to trying them out the next time I hit the ski slope.
