WOW. I have the feet of a corpsed caveman encased in arctic ice, severe pain in the (currently) winter months from hallux valgus (bunions) and circulation/muscle freezing so bad that I can barely get my right ankle to function, and have never been able to find truly thick or warming socks. Most socks seem to make it worse even, being far too tight or of a material that saps your body heat. Within moments of putting on the heavyweight 83% wool Ballston socks I could actually feel my feet warming up, and my ankle regaining some usability. 20 minutes later they are not "warm," but Instead of painfully numb I can actually feel them and they are far less cold than they've ever been in these circumstances, and the pain has greatly subsided as well. Not saying these are some miracle cure for a lifetime of degenerative bone and tissue temperature problems, but they are lightyears closer to it than anything else I've found. Also the toebox is nice and roomy, which allows the toes to move freely and is absolutely vital for my ability to have anything on my feet (don't wear tight-toed shoes folks, it destroys your structural integrity. Chuck Taylors are EEBLE >_<). Usually I have to buy mens (overlarge for me) socks to get this kind of excess toe room, but those are always too long in the foot otherwise; these in medium fit just perfectly on my 8.5-9 size wide/extra wide but lean feet, and I couldn't be happier with them. (Note: for comparison my bare sizing foot is 239 mm (9.4 in) from heal to longest toe, which a standard shoe sizer will tell you is 7.5-8 (US)--this is a very bad standard, but what I wore for 20 years before discovering proper [i.e. not mainstream] foot health. For the love of your feet, always allow complete toe freedom in your socks and an additional 1 cm *minimum* extra space in the toebox of your shoes!) Will absolutely be purchasing the lighter weight version for warmer months.
TLDR: the Ballston heavyweight 83% wool socks are ultra thick, genuinely warming (relative to your coldness), roomy but well-fitted (size medium on wide 239 mm long feet), and SIMPLY AMAZING. I may never again buy socks anywhere else EVER. <3
David B.
Excellent cold weather socks. The only ones I use.
Julie S.
So far I like them a lot - the toe is wide enough for my wide feet, and they are cushioned, warm and not scratchy. The real test will come with time - I'm looking for winter socks that can last, but I'll have to report back - these are still new.
TIMOTHY K.
excellent socks, this is the second time i have purchased these socks, i see comparable socks for double the price, my question is why? do not spend the money on other brands, i have done all the research for you
Kelly P.
Simply the best socks ever!!!
Stefan G.
I prefer the Ballston Unisex Merino Wool House Socks / Ragg Socks which are much warmer than these and not itchy like these.
Carol T.
Not at all heavy weight. No sticker to note small' med., or large, etc. Can't say whether I'll be giving you another chance or not...a big disappointment. I have placed 4 orders with you, and there have been issues each time.
Gary M.
Absolutely wonderful socks!! Should be sold as “ Luxury Socks”.
Rodrigo Q.
Great product! Very warm and cosy. Customer Service was also amazing.
Sheryl M.
Very small. We were looking for the largest and warmest heavy socks we could find. My husband wears a size 16 shoe. We finally found these Ballston socks. It said the size XXL fit a size 16 - 20 shoe. We thought we had finally found them - but once we received them, they fit like they are barely a size 14. Nowhere near a size 16 much less a size 20. They are very tight and uncomfortable on him. The quality is very good and are much warmer than other socks we have found. But we were hoping for a true size 16 - 20 as listed.
Janet R.
They are a great sock. My husband likes them alot.
ellis b.
the finest pair of winter socks available ! ... made in vermont !
Jason T.
I have been looking for warm hunting socks for 2 years and I'm very pleased to report that I finally found the warmest sock.
My feet no longer get cold while sitting in the marsh.
Will definitely be buying more.
Leo H.
I've been wearing these socks for years and actually did a review on my YouTube channel about them. Still my favorite go-to sock for winter, and spring or fall. I wear the lighter weight ones in the summer. Highly recommend them.
RICHARD S.
Got xxl and dissapointed as very tight around ankles. Expected the larger size to be ACTUALLY larger. Cut off the top. Now better. Richard
Dan P.
It is wonderful to purchase a quality product made in the US, we as a country have lost our focus over the years being happy buying crap manufactured in third world countries. Let’s bring quality manufacturing back to the US. We’ll spoke from a person who has spent 42 years in an American Manufacturing Environment ❤️
Kirby F.
Great socks. Good customer service. They actually keep my normally sweaty feet dry and comfortable. Much better than cotton. Nice to wear around the house during winter too so my feet stay warm. Highly recommened.

Great sox warm comfy remember turn inside out to wash dri low .five stars
Robert B.
These are the best socks I have ever found anywhere that I have looked. They are the warmest and they absorb moisture in such a way that my feet feel warm and dry even when wet. I encourage you to buy some and learn what a wonderful experience it is to wear these socks.
FIONA S.
a little different to my last pairs. these fall down and bunch up in my shoes. this is the first time i’ve been disappointed with ballstons. hoping some hot washes will solve the problem
Joseph M.
I will say, I was super excited to receive these. I moved out of the US to a colder environment and I have tried multiple wool socks that I was really disappointed with due to ALL of them being tight around my calf/ankle. I have cut every one of my other socks down the sides to have more relief.. When I received these I was so anxious to try them on and I will say they are super comfortable. The only thing I will say that I am surprised about is even having these on in my house my toes still get super cold, maybe I need to have shoes or boots on to be effective but other than that.. All the wool socks I have bought ,,these are the best..
Brian L.
I love these socks for hiking, and just wearing around. They fit well, they are durable, they are comfortable, and I like the price. My wife and I have been happy with a number of the socks made by Ballston, for dress and for recreation.
Linda S.
These socks are the most comfortable socks I've ever worn. I love them! My feet do not sweat in them and there is no odor when I take them off. No other sock compares to these! I've been wearing them for years.
MARTIN B.
The superb cushioning in your expedition model, and warmth provided, with wicking action, gave me total satisfaction. Looking forward to placing , next order, for Medium weight style.
Bryan Y.
Pros: Socks are very warm, heavy, and comfortable.
Cons: Socks had pilling and loose threads right out of the package. I have washed and hang dried according to instructions and the pilling has gotten worse. I have owned other wool blend socks and not experienced a similar issue, although in fairness, I like these socks better. I understand there is a 1 year warranty and I hope I won't need to use it. Worth the price if they hold up.
Robert H.
Great product at good price
Scott F.
Best pair of winter socks I have ever owned. Once you buy a pair of these you will not buy another.
Gerald C.
Best wool socks period. I'm replacing all my previous brands of wool socks with all Ballston wool socks. It has been very cold in the Mid-West this winter and the heavy weight socks have made a huge difference. I have a pair of the light weight hikers I purchased from a local box store and they are great for temps above 32F, for my feet, for active use.
I plan on purchasing some more light weight hikers and the mid weight socks as well for different temperature ranges. I like the construction of the Ballston sock, with the little loops on the inside to provide cushion while hiking. I like the use of repurposed textiles for the heel-and-toe areas.
Made in USA, high wool content, buy direct. What's not to like??
Waylon
These are a great product. Comfortable, keep my feet warm and dry, and made in the USA. The craftsmanship really shows. In a job where I’m on my feet all day these socks get me through my work day in comfort. Ballston definitely didn’t skimp on the materials because these baby’s have a lot of wool in them, giving me padded steps and nice warm toes and great arch support. Thanks for a great product and for keeping it in the USA.
john c.
Finally warm on my snow rides.
Jedidiah A.
The best wool socks I've purchased to date.
Elliot G.
The socks are warm, soft, and stay up.
Terry H.
Very heavy, but they work. High quality. I also bought lighter ones in one size smaller. Much better.
David H.
The heavy wool socks are the best on the market. As a daily
user, these took me two years to locate. Dave Boulder, CO.

A great Winter sock. The 83% wool blend keeps you warmer and drier than any synthetic on the market today. Don’t leave home without them.
Nick P.
Good socks!
Kip P.
Excellent heavyweight socks. Everyone should buy these. Fair price and made in the USA.

elisabet s.
these are the warmest socks I've ever had... (and they are soft and comfortable as well)
I've tried a LOT of wool socks.... smartwool (junk now that it's owned by Vogue)
and icebreaker (better wool, but way too tight with 'spandex')
most seem to be made for 'looks' not utilitarian use... such as cold, wet winter weather that we on the Olympic peninsula have for 6 months a year...
these socks fit well and stay up
they didn't over-use "elastic material" to achieve this as many do...
i don't feel like they are cutting off the blood supply
to my feet as some do...
i also like that they are 'tall' .... the men's medium (i have a wide foot from going barefoot) goes up almost mid-calf so i have warmth there as well as my feet...
i do not feel like anyone skimped anywhere in making this sock...
they will have my continued devotion..
i like that it this product is made in america
by a mill that has been in business (and struggled to stay so at times) for many decades...
i feel like this sock was made by crafts-persons with skills and wisdom from years of spinning wool.... they are a pleasure to wear...
thank you for your integrity... it is hard to find in this time of
corporate-bottom-line-$$$$$$-grubbing.......

These socks are very well made, thick and cozy. There was a mistake and initially I was only sent part of my order but customer service was excellent and quickly shipped out the rest. I'm very happy with my purchase and will buy from Ballston again.

Best socks for the price hands down! I have tried nearly every brand and these are superior! My new go to socks!

Very comfortable! Good fit!!
Roderick R.
I was sorry to find that the socks seem to be on the small side. I gave them to my wife. If I order in the future, I will have to see if you have the size larger than 9-12. The product seems well made.
